Cross Country Competes At Connecticut College

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's cross country team posted an 11th place finish, while the women's squad was 20th this afternoon at the Connecticut College Invitational.

Senior Zach Switaj (Tamworth, N.H.) placed 16th overall to pace the Corsairs, covering the 8-kilometer course in a time of 26 minutes, two seconds. Sophomore Michael Vaz (Dartmouth, Mass.) was the second UMD harrier and 60th overall to complete the trail, posting a time of 26 minutes, 51 seconds. Sophomore Tene Paquin (Middleboro, Mass.) and classmate Andrew Goncalves (New Bedford, Mass.) were 72nd and 76th, respectively, while freshman Kurt Dreher (Dartmouth, Mass.) completed the UMass Dartmouth scoring (107th).

Keene State College captured the team title with 74 points, outdistancing Coast Guard Academy by just three markers. Connecticut College's Michael Leduc was the first runner to cross the finish line at 24 minutes, 54 seconds.

Freshman Jennifer Miranda (New Bedford, Mass.) led UMass Dartmouth across the line with a time of 25 minutes, 34 seconds to place 113th overall. Classmate Mary Leach (Peabody, Mass.) was 122nd after covering the 6-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 22 seconds. Sophomore Katisha Bellegarde (Methuen, Mass.) finished eight seconds behind Leach to place 124th, two spots ahead of Sophie Morawski (South Deerfield, Mass.). Junior Renee Laurencelle (Tyngsboro, Mass.) capped the Corsair scoring with a time of 26 minutes, 30 seconds.

Tufts University registered three top-10 performances to win the women's race with 52 points. Steven's Amy Reagan was the first runner to complete the course, recording a time of 21 minutes, 29 seconds.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, when the Corsairs compete at the 2013 New England Alliance and Little East Conference Championships in Gorham, Maine.
