Dartmouth, Mass. -- UMass Dartmouth freshman standout Carlos Rivera was named today as the Little East Conference Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year in a vote taken of the league’s coaches.
A native of Lowell, Mass. and a graduate of Lowell High School, Rivera has been tabbed as the Little East Rookie of the Week on three occasions this season, including on October 30th after he earned all-league honors with a sixth place overall finishing time of 27:40.9 in windy, rainy and muddy conditions at the conference championships in Smithfield, R.I. Carlos helped Head Coach Mike Salem’s squad post a runner-up team performance in the event, as the Corsairs were topped by Southern Maine (43-48) for this year’s Little East crown.
Rivera also earned the conference’s weekly Rookie award on September 17th and October 8th after respective performances at the UMass Dartmouth and Westfield State James Earley Invitationals. He will help lead the Corsairs into action at the 2018 NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Pickards Field in Brunswick, Maine beginning at 12:15 pm EST.
