BOSTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's cross country team finished 38 out of 47 teams and the women were 34th in a field of 47 teams at the Open New England Championships at Franklin Park Saturday.

For the women, freshman Dekontee Chea (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) finished 104th in 19:18, junior Meaghan Bohigian (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional HS) was 195th in 20:22, junior Courtney Testa (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) finished 217th in 20:40, freshmen Kelci Sullivan (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) finished 264th in 21:40, Caitlin McGarigal was 277th in 21:56, junior Stacey Dybel (Littleton, MA/Notre Dame Academy) was 292nd in 22:35, and freshman Brittany Lyons (South Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth HS) finished 295th in 22:43.

For the men, senior Nick Santoro (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's HS) of the Corsairs finished 111th in 26:15, senior Eric Nygaard (Medway, MA/Medway HS) was 192nd in 26:59, junior Kevin Gilmore (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) was 195th in 27:00, junior Steve Burke (Norwell, MA/Norwell HS) was 258th in 27:24, senior Wes Meserve (Merrimack, MA/Merrimack HS) finished 286th in 29:04, freshmen Cody Gibney (New Bedford, MA/Greater New Bedford Vo Tech HS) was 287th in 29:03, and freshman Chris Jordan (Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) finished 148th in 30:26.

"For being without two of our top runners today senior Derek Stevens (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott HS) and junior Meaghan Bohigian (Barre, MA/Quabbin Regional HS), I thought we held together well," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. "We were running against the region's best teams from Divisions I, II and III. For the women, Dekontee ran very well, Courtney ran much better than she did two weeks ago, and Kelci ran well. Nick ran his usual race, Eric ran his best race of the year, Steve Burke ran well, and Wes Meserve stepped up into the top five. In a race like this, that's all you can ask."

The Corsairs will return to action when they travel to Connecticut College next Saturday.
