Erika Bornemann Earns LEC Player of Week Honors
Sophomore forward Erika Bornemann
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Sophomore forward Erika Bornemann (Canton, MA/Canton HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Bornemann has been named LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. It's the first time she has been so honored.
Bornemann averaged 15.5 points and 13 rebounds per game last week, averaging a double double in two games as UMass Dartmouth extended their winning streak to a season-best five games. Last Wednesday evening, she scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Corsairs against Mount Ida. Saturday, she scored 16 points and added 16 rebounds as UMass Dartmouth defeated Western Connecticut State and moved into a tie for fourth place with the Colonials in the Little East Conference standing. Bornemann now has seven double doubles this season.
"Erika has really come on strong," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "She's been a big scorer for us, and a big rebounder on both ends of the floor. She is also knocking down threes like a perimeter player. Erika is a threat in many ways, and, as a result, is very tough to defend."
The Corsairs are 14-7 and 5-5 in the Little East Conference and will return to action when they host Rhode Island College Tuesday night.
