Erika Bornemann Earns LEC Player of the Week Honors
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA Junior forward) Erika Bornemann (Canton, MA/Canton HS) OF the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Bornemann has been named the LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first week of action.
Bornemann averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds per game as the Corsairs defeated Rivier and Maine Farmington in the season-opening UMass Dartmouth Basketball Classic, presented by the Fairfield Inn & Suites.
Bornemann scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as UMass Dartmouth defeated Rivier Friday afternoon, 66-62. On Saturday, she scored 18 points and had 14 rebounds in the victory over Maine-Farmington.
"Erika had an outstanding opening weekend," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "She is locked in right now, showing unbelievable focus and drive. When she has the hot hand, our team is successful. She was relentless on the boards and showed off her shooting touch from the perimeter. I can't ask for much more from her right now. She was tremendous."
The Corsairs will return to action Tuesday evening when they host Worcester State.
