NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA Senior forward Colleen Moriarty (Canton, MA/Canton HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Moriarty has been named the LEC Co-Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performance last week.
Moriarty averaged 21 points and nine rebounds per game as the Corsairs defeated Brandeis, Salve Regina and Plymouth State last week to improve to 7-1 overall. She scored 22 points and hit the winning basket with five seconds left in last Monday's 50-49 win against Brandeis, scored a season-high 26 points in Thursday's win at Salve Regina, and scored 15 Saturday as the Corsairs won at LEC opponent to Plymouth State. She made 51.7 per cent of her shots from the field, and added six steals and seven blocked shots.
"Colleen left it all on the court last week dominating the opposition," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "She has worked very hard developing her offensive skills and it's paying off for her as a senior. She is establishing better position on the low block, and her sense and touch around the rim is impeccable. We had to fight for our wins last week. Colleen led that charge with her stellar performances and as our floor leader."
The Corsairs will return to action Monday evening when they visit Johnson & Wales.
