NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth freshman Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, Mass.) was chosen as the Little East Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week by the conference office this afternoon after helping the Corsairs post a 1-1 record. She also earned a conference citation during the first week of the women's basketball reporting schedule.
Ronaghan averaged 16 points per game in a pair of non-conference contests against Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponents. The freshman from North Attleboro, Mass. scored 18 points, on 8-for-13 from the field, in a loss at Worcester State. Four days later, Ronaghan produced 14 points and seven rebounds in a comeback victory over Salem State.
A starter in all four games, Ronaghan is tied for the conference lead in scoring (16.5 ppg) with teammate Erika Bornemann (Canton, Mass.), while ranking second on the Corsairs in rebounding (5.5 rpg). She has connected on 54.5 percent (30-for-55) of her attempts for the field, while converting on 60 percent (6-for-10) from the foul line. Ronaghan has reached double figures in scoring during the past three games, including a season-high 28-point performance against Castleton State in the championship round of the Fairfield Suites and Inn tournament. She nearly posted her first career double-double against the Spartans with nine rebounds.
UMass Dartmouth (2-2) will return to action at 7 p.m. on Nov. 26, when Salve Regina visits the Tripp Athletic Center for a non-conference tilt.
