PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Following a pair of double-doubles last week, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) gathered her second Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week nod of the season on Monday.
In two victories, Examond averaged 24.5 points and 14 rebounds last week. Against Southern Maine on Saturday, she finished with 26 points and 14 boards, including 16 points in the second half, to lead the Corsairs to a 64-56 comeback win. The next day, Examond posted 23 points and 14 rebounds as UMass Dartmouth cruised to a 76-57 non-conference victory over Regis. For the weekend, she converted on 19-of-28 shooting (68 percent), with 17 of her 28 rebounds coming on the offensive end of the floor. She now leads the LEC in rebounds per game (10.3) and field goal percentage (62.9) and owns five double-doubles on the season.
UMass Dartmouth has now won six-straight games, dating back to Dec. 2, and remains undefeated at home this year. The Corsairs (9-2 overall) sit tied atop the LEC standings at 3-0 with UMass Boston, and are the eighth-best scoring offense in Division III with 82.6 points per game.
The Corsairs hit the road on Wednesday to meet Eastern Connecticut for conference play, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
