Dartmouth, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth women’s basketball team is picked to repeat as Little East Conference champions, as the Corsairs sit atop the 2018-19 league pre-season coaches’ poll that was released earlier today.
Head Coach Matt Ducharme’s squad received five first place votes and amassed 60 points in this year’s rankings, as UMass Dartmouth topped runner-up UMass Boston’s 55 points that included a pair of first place votes. Southern Maine was next in third place with 50 points and a first place vote, while Eastern Connecticut followed in the fourth spot with 48 points and the other first place vote in the poll.
Western Connecticut earned 30 points to finish fifth in this year’s rankings, while Rhode Island College and Keene State tied for sixth place with 23 points each. Castleton (19 points) and Plymouth State (16 points) rounded out the 2018-19 poll.
The Corsairs finished 24-4 in Ducharme’s fourth season at the helm last winter, including a perfect 14-0 mark in Little East regular season play. UMass Dartmouth opens its 2018-19 slate on Tuesday, November 13th by hosting Bridgewater State in a non-league outing at the Tripp Athletic Center that begins at 5:30 pm EST.
