PROVIDENCE, RI-Host Rhode Island College outscored the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team, 19-1 during a span of nearly 14 minutes in the first half, built a 35-8 halftime lead and went on to defeat in the Corsairs, 62-23, in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader at the Murray Center Tuesday evening.

RIC took a commanding lead after a 19-1 run midway through the first half, breaking a 3-3 tie and building a 22-4 advantage with 5:20 left before halftime. Junior guard Erica Batchelder's (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton HS/Salem State) three-pointer with 19:08 left in the first half gave UMD a 3-1 lead, but the Corsairs were held to a single free throw by freshman guard Nicole Grassi (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North HS) during the next 13:48. Junior forward Colleen Moriarty (Canton, MA/Canton HS) broke the streak with a jumper with 5:01 left in the first half. RIC led at halftime, 35-8.

Moriarty led UMD with 10 points and 11 rebounds for a double double, but she was the only Corsair in double figures. Stephanie Coro led the Anchorwomen with 26 points, Rachel Riley had 21, Cynthia Gaudet had 20, Nicole Girard had 18 and Courtney Burns added 17. RIC made 37.1 per cent of their shots from the field to 11.9 per cent for UMass Dartmouth, and forced 22 turnovers while committing 11.

"We played hard, we played better defense than we did Saturday, and I can't fault our effort," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "Unfortunately, we couldn't score. Our shooting was dismal, and you can't win a game shooting like that."

The Corsairs dropped to 9-6 and 2-4 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while the Anchorwomen improved to 13-2 and 6-0 in LEC play with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit host Keene State in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Saturday.
