Jan. 3, 2012

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team have been honored by the Little East Conference.

Junior forward Colleen Moriarty (Canton, MA/Canton HS) has been named LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while freshman guard Kelsey Garrity (Somerville, MA/Somerville HS) has been named LEC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Moriarty scored a season-best 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Corsairs' 61-46 victory over Johnson & Wales Tuesday, December 13th. She made nine of 17 shots from the field and posted her third double double of the season.

Garrity scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and added seven assists against Johnson & Wales.

"Colleen went back-to-back with outstanding performances to finish the semester," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "She is a driving force behind our will to win. Colleen is running on all cylinders, which puts us in a position to succeed. Kelsey is steady in the backcourt for our squad. She is dishing out assists and cutting down on turnovers, and she is conscious of the impact of her decisions with the ball. I look forward to tackling the LEC schedule with Kelsey as our point guard."

The Corsairs are 7-3 and will return to action when they host Eastern Nazarene Wednesday evening.
