Erika Bornemann Earns Little East Conference Honors
Jan. 10, 2011
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Freshman forward Erika Bornemann (Canton, MA/Canton HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Bornemann has been named LEC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.
Bornemann was honored for her play in the Corsairs' two games last week. She averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, making 12 of 25 shots from the field for 48 per cent and led the Corsairs in scoring twice, scoring 17 points in last Tuesday's game against Westfield State and 11 points Saturday against Southern Maine. She grabbed nine rebounds against the owls, just missing a double double, and added six rebounds against the Huskies.
"Erika played well," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "It's hard for rookie post players to stand out in the Little East. Erika faces big challenges night in and night out. She has shined for us, and I'm happy to see that she got the recognition."
The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Eastern Connecticut State in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Tuesday.
