NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA -Junior guard Lynley DeAmato (Melrose, MA/Melrose HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
DeAmato has been named Little East Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.
DeAmato averaged 21 points, six rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game last week to help lead UMass Dartmouth to a pair of Little East Conference victories. She scored 22 points for the first time this season against UMass Boston last Tuesday night, and then scored 20 points Saturday against Plymouth State. It marked the first time she had scored 20 points or more in consecutive games. She connected on 14 free throws without a miss against the Panthers, and made four late free throws to help the Corsairs preserve their lead.
"Lynley shot lights out all week," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Amanda Van Voorhis. "As a point guard, she is reading defenses, picking her spots to go to the basket wisely, being more selective, and doing a good job of taking what the defense gives her while playing within our offensive scheme. Her performance from the line Saturday was a real boost. It will be exciting to see what she can do for us down the stretch."
Although she is a junior, DeAmato is making her collegiate basketball debut this season. UMass Dartmouth is 7-10 overall, and 2-5 in LEC play. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Rhode Island College in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Tuesday evening.
