WORCESTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team took a 2-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat host Clark, 4-2, in a non-conference match at the Granger Fields Thursday evening.
Junior defender Victoria Dolce (Jamestown, RI/North Kingstown HS) scored twice for the Corsairs, who scored three of their four goals off penalty corners.
Dolce converted a pass from senior forward Erica Allan (Amherst, MA/Amherst HS) off a penalty corner to give UMD a 1-0 lead at 17:14. Senior defender Taryn Cardiel (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS) made it 2-0 4:42 before halftime when she converted senior midfielder Jenna Miedzionoski's (Beverly, MA/Hamilton-Wenham HS) pass off a penalty corner.
Dolce made it 3-0 on another assist by Allan 16:32 into the second half before Madeleine Lutts scored for Clark less than two minutes later. Freshman midfielder Emily Anderson (Medway, MA/Medway HS) scored the Corsairs' fourth goal off a penalty corner and an assist by Cardiel, at 59:30. Lutts scored again for the Cougars in the waning moments.
UMass Dartmouth out shot Clark, 15-4. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) made two saves for UMD, while Jordannah Saunders stopped eight shots for Clark.
The Corsairs improved to 1-1 with the victory, while the Cougars fell to 1-1 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Westfield State Saturday.
