Taryn Cardiel is LEC Field Hockey Player of the Week

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Senior defender Taryn Cardiel (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team has been honored by the Little East Conference.

Cardiel has been named LEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Cardiel helped lead the defense this week, which allowed two goals in two games and shut out Framing State in their conference match Saturday. She also led the Corsairs in scoring with three goals, scoring twice against Endicott and adding a goal in Saturday's win against the Rams.

"Taryn is the backbone of this team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "Not only is she a great leader and communicator, but she plays the position of sweeper, and I have always built my team based on the strength of my sweeper.  Strong on defense and a force on the attacking corner unit, Taryn has been an impact player for me since her freshman year.  She, without a doubt, deserves this recognition"

UMD is 3-2 and 2-0 in the Little East Conference. The Corsairs will host Tufts Wednesday evening.
