Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) was named LEC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week, while freshman forward Cory Connolly (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury HS) was named LEC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.
O'Brien allowed one goal in two games, posting a 0.50 goals-against average, while making 20 saves and posting a .952 save percentage as the Corsairs defeated Worcester State and Keene State. Connolly led UMass Dartmouth in scoring with four goals for eight points, scoring twice in each match.
"Cory has been stepping up for us in a big way, especially throughout the second half of the season," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "She has really found her comfort level and is working really well up front with senior (forward) Erica Allan (Amherst, MA/Amherst HS). Cory has such a natural ability and athletic instinct, she's a nice addition to our program and I'm happy to see her succeeding the way she has, so early on."
"Lauren deserves this recognition, she has allowed only four goals in 10 LEC games and the strength that she and our backfield have shown throughout the season is really impressive," Castonguay added. "Lauren was able to step into an important role during her freshman year and since then, she has continuously improved. I'm glad she's showing a different type of confidence this season."
UMass Dartmouth is 12-5 overall and 10-0 in the LEC and visits Wellesley Wednesday. The Corsairs have clinched first place in the LEC and the top seed in next week's LEC Tournament.
