Anderson Powers Corsairs Past Keene State on Senior Day

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth pulled out on top in a critical Little East Conference match-up against rival Keene State on Senior Day, clinching a 3-1 LEC victory. Senior Emily Anderson (Medway, Mass.) netted her first goal of the season as she sent home the would-be game winner in the 46th minute of the contest, giving the Corsairs the victory.

The Corsairs started the scoring when junior Hunter Carden (Branford, Conn.) capitalized off a penalty corner by collecting the rebound and driving around the defense into the net during the 19th minute.

Keene State would even the score right after halftime, when sophomore Casi Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) sent home a penalty stroke in the 36th minute.

Anderson was able to get her first goal of the season at the best possible time. In the 46th minute, she collected the Keene State turnover and fired a laser from the right side through the defense and into the lower left hand corner of the net, giving the Corsairs the lead for good.

The insurance goal was added by sophomore Haley Donahay (Cranston, R.I.) in the 52nd minute, collecting a tipped rebound off the stick of Carden.

Recording five shots on the day was senior Jill Levrault (Somerset, Mass.), while Anderson registered three. Carden and Donahay each recorded two.

Corsairs' sophomore keeper Allison Burke (Franklin, Mass.) improves to 11-5 on the season with the victory, while turning aside three shots. For the Owls, senior net minder Meaghan Dwyer (Rutland, Mass.) dropped to 11-6 on her campaign while making four saves.

UMass Dartmouth outpaced the Owls in nearly every category, totaling 14 shots on the evening to KSC's six. The Corsairs also saw 11 penalty corners while Keene State earned four.

With the loss, the Owls dropped to 12-6 on the season and 8-2 in conference play. The Corsairs now sit 12-5 with an 8-2 slate in the LEC.

Next up, the Corsairs will close out their regular season home schedule when Wellesley comes to Cressy Field Wednesday at 7:00pm. Keene State will look to get back in the win column with a Wednesday match as they host Smith College at 6:30pm.
