PAWTUCKET, R.I. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seniors Allison Burke (Franklin, Mass.) and Haley Donahay (Cranston, R.I.) swept the weekly defensive field hockey awards for the Corsairs, with Burke taking Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week accolades and Donahay Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Burke gathered her second such nod of the season with her first two wins in net on 2017. The net-minder turned aside five shots as the Corsairs shut out Clark 2-0 on Sept. 12 for UMass Dartmouth’s first win, and needed to make just one save on Sept. 16 in her team’s 2-1 overtime victory at Salem State. On the season, Burke ranks second in the LEC with 61 saves and her .847 save percentage.
Donahay earns her first conference honor of the season as the Corsairs allowed just one goal from opponents on the undefeated week. The senior captain took her first four shots on the offensive end, including one against Clark and three at Salem State. The mainstay in the UMass Dartmouth defense, Donahay owns a defensive save on the season and four for her career.
The Corsairs are now 2-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in LEC play. With Tuesday’s scheduled matchup with Bridgewater State postponed due to impending weather, UMass Dartmouth will return to Cressy Field on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Fitchburg State.
