Field Hockey Drops Non-League Road Decision At Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Senior Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist as Clark used five unanswered second half tallies to post a 6-1 non-league college field hockey victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Granger Field.

The host Cougars (7-7) grabbed a 1-0 edge just 3:40 into the contest on junior Mikayla Pantano’s (East Bridgewater, Mass.) goal, but the visiting Corsairs (2-12) evened matters just 2:44 after intermission on sophomore Brittany Perry’s (Dighton, Mass.) third marker of the season.  Sophomore Carden Mahoney (Worcester, Mass.) gave Clark the lead for good in the 44th minute of play, and Barksdale tallied as part of a four-goal outburst by the hosts in a 14 minute span that sealed their triumph.

Sophomore Anna Joyce (Hopkinton, Mass.) and freshman Kimberlie Asseng (Deerfield, Mass.) also scored in the win for the Cougars, who received a pair of assists off the stick of sophomore Cheyanne Zappala (Laconia, N.H.).  Senior Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) picked up her fifth victory of the season in net with an 11-save effort for Clark, while senior Ariel St. Germaine (Wareham, Mass.) made five stops in the setback for UMass Dartmouth.  The Corsairs outshot the Cougars by a 22-16 margin overall (12-11 on goal) and held an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Wednesday evening to battle Bridgewater State in a Little East Conference clash beginning at 7:00 pm, while Clark hosts Springfield in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference match on Tuesday evening at Granger Field that also begins at 7:00 pm.
