BEVERLY, MA-Hannah Thornberg scored twice to lead host Endicott to a 3-2 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon.
Thornberg scored 31 seconds into the match and again at the 9:02 mark to give the Gulls a 2-0 lead. Junior forward Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/Quinnipiac) scored 2:47 later, cutting the deficit to a single goal when she converted a pass from junior midfielder Linee Mello-Frost (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS).
Taylor Matties made it 3-1 when she scored 7:47 into the second half. Kinchla scored again, taking a pass from senior midfielder Kylie Treat (Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) and scoring with 2:35 remaining, but EC held off the Corsairs the rest of the way.
UMD out shot Endicott, 22-10, but the Gulls' goalkeeper, Taylor Teixera, made 13 saves to four for the Corsairs' senior goalkeeper Seana Golden (Somerset, MA/Bishop Stang HS).
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 2-3 with the defeat, while Endicott improved to 3-1 with the win. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Plymouth State Friday.
