NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team scored once in each half and blanked host Southern Maine, 2-0, in a Little East Conference match at Hannaford Field Saturday.
Junior forward Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, MA/Bishop Stang HS) scored the first goal of the game for UMass Dartmouth at the 8:04 mark. Junior forward Erica Allan (Amherst, MA/Amherst HS) made it 2-0 when she converted a goal-mouth feed at 47:19.
"After our last match, we knew that we needed to be more consistent," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "We always go out hard for conference games, but all of our opponents do as well. We played better today, and our strength was our overall team defense. (Sophomore goalkeeper) Kelsey Gallo (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich HS) played well for us goal today."
The Corsairs outshot the Huskies, 18-14. Gallo made 12 saves for UMD, while Kayla Kennedy made seven stops for USM.
The Corsairs improved to 7-5 and 6-1 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Huskies dropped to 6-8 and 3-4 in LEC play with the defeat.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Trinity Tuesday.
