HARTFORD, CT- Host Trinity scored three goals in the second half and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team, 4-1, in non-conference match at Robin L. Sheppard Field Tuesday evening.
Sophomore defender Taryn Cardiel (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark HS) gave UMass Dartmouth the lead when she converted a pass from freshman midfielder Devon Herlihy (Exeter, NH/Exeter HS) at the 18:46 mark. Payson Sword tied it for the Bantams when she scored 3:19 later, and the teams were tied at halftime.
Alanna Capasso gave Trinity the lead when she scored at 40:31. Christy Bradley and Hadley Duncan added second half goals for the Bantams.
"I'm proud of our team for coming out strong in the first half, we just need to get to the point where we can do that for 70 minutes," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "Every time we go into a game like this, we know what's ahead of us. These games are a way for us to prepare for our conference, and see where we stand as far as the NCAAs."
The Bantams outshot the Corsairs, 22-2. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) made12 saves for the Corsairs, while Gina Dinallo made one for Trinity. .
UMD dropped to 9-5 with the defeat, while Trinity improved to 6-4 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Southern Maine Saturday.
