FRAMINGHAM, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team scored three goals in the second half and defeated host Framingham State, 4-0, in a Little East Conference match at Maple Street Field Saturday.
Sophomore forward Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, MA/Bishop Stang HS) put the Corsairs ahead when she converted a pass from senior defender Kate Dorrance (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton Rehoboth HS) at the 9:19 mark. Senior forward Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/Quinnipiac) scored twice and senior forward Jacke Anderson (Medway, MA/Medway HS) scored once in the second half, all within a period of 12:22 as UMD broke the game open.
"We were awesome," said senior midfielder Becca Festinger (Greenfield, MA/Greenfield HS). "We did very well with our passing game. We usually score off corners, but today, we did a really good job penetrating the circle and finishing. Everyone plays their best game against us because we are in first place, so we have to try to play up to our potential. We are trying to use every game as preparation for the tournament."
The Corsairs outshot the Rams, 14-2. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS), made one save for the Corsairs, while Allesha Kenyon and Sarah Ryan combined to record 10 for FSU.
UMD improved to 12-5 and 10-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while Framingham State dropped to 5-10 and 3-7 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Mount Holyoke Wednesday evening. UMASS DARTMOUTH FIELD HOCKEY
