NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Junior forward Shara Robertson (Kwazulu Natal, South Africa/St. Mary's HS) scored three goals to lead visiting Mount Holyoke to a 4-2 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Wednesday evening.
Robertson scored twice within a span of 8:15 late in the game to break a 2-2 tie. Her second goal of the game, assisted by sophomore forward Angelica Pascual (Lawrence, MA/Proctor Academy-NH), gave Mount Holyoke a 3-2 lead with 15:29 remaining, She converted a pass from freshman forward Stephanie Slysz (Hatfield, MA/Smith Academy) with 7:14 to play to account for the final margin.
Pascual put the Lyons on top with an unassisted goal at 9:42, and Robertson scored less than two minutes later to put Mount Holyoke ahead, 2-0. The Corsairs battled back early in the second half. Senior forward Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/Quinnipiac) put UMass Dartmouth on the board at the 44 minute mark, and sophomore forward Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, MA/Bishop Stang HS) tied the score with 24:18 remaining.
"Our non-conference games are mainly to prepare us for tournament play," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "We only have a couple of practices and the Keene game left before the tournament. When you have a game like this and walk away not satisfied at this point in the season, it can only help you. We'll be excited to get back to practice tomorrow."
The Lyons outshot the Corsairs, 16-5. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS), made nine saves for UMD, while junior Katie Gibson (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Latin HS) made two stops for Mount Holyoke.
UMD dropped to 12-5 with the defeat, while Mount Holyoke improved to 9-5 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Keene State Saturday. Mount Holyoke will host Springfield Saturday. UMASS DARTMOUTH FIELD HOCKEY
