NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA- Freshman goalkeeper Lauren O'Brien (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team has earned another honor.
O'Brien has been named Little East Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.
O'Brien posted a 2.50 goals against average and had 20 saves in two matches last week. She made 13 saves and held Trinity to one goal in the first half last Tuesday night, then made seven saves Saturday in a 2-1 victory against Southern Maine.
"Lauren stepped in for us in a crucial time when other frosh starter, Kelsey Gallo, was injured mid season," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Castonguay. "Since pre-season, Lauren has had her sights on making an immediate impact as a first year player here. She is very determined and I expect to see great things out of her in the next couple of weeks."
The Corsairs are 10-5 and 8-0 in the Little East Conference and will return to action when they visit Eastern Connecticut State in a Little East Conference match on Wednesday.
