Two Earn Women's Lacrosse Academic Honors
MIAMI, OH-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team have earned academic post-season honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Senior defender Selina Houghton (Billerica, MA/Shawsheen HS) and senior midfielder Denise Gates (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam HS) were among 246 student-athletes named to the NCAA Division III Academic Honor Roll for the spring 2012 season. Both players were juniors last spring, and both started all 17 games for the Corsairs. Gates ranked second in scoring for UMD with 24 goals and 29 assists for 53 points.
Student-athletes need to be juniors or seniors to be members of the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, and must be nominated by their team.
"Selina and Denise have worked hard as student-athletes, and this honor is well-deserved," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Sarah Booker. "They will be outstanding leaders of the team this year, setting an example by balancing the demands of being a diligent student and a varsity athlete.
