GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine scored 12 unanswered goals to cruise to a 24-5 Little East Conference women's lacrosse win over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this afternoon at Hannaford Field.
With the victory, the Huskies (6-8, 2-3 LEC) clinched a spot in the 2014 Little East Women's Lacrosse Championship tournament field. Southern Maine will complete its conference circuit at Rhode Island College on Sunday, April 27. The Corsairs closed out the 2014 campaign with a 4-12 overall record, including a 0-6 mark against Little East opponents.
Jenna Cyr powered the Huskies offensive attack with six points, on five goals and an assist. Shelby Turcotte and Sarah Pelligrinelli recorded five points apiece, while Rosie Forster and Lauren Lessard each produced four points.
Senior Taylor Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) led UMass Dartmouth with a hat trick, while freshman Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) found the back of the net twice for the visitors. Corsano won a team-high six draws, while classmate Vicky Wood (New Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Leah Wilkinson (Northford, Conn./North Branford) each collected four ground balls.
Kim Vogel made six saves, including five in the first frame, to earn the victory, while Wilkinson recorded seven stops in the loss.
