PAWTUCKET, R.I. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth sophomore Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) earned her first Little East Conference honor of the season on Monday, taking Women’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week accolades.
In last Thursday’s 9-8 double-overtime win at Salem State, Burchill registered 14 saves to keep the Corsairs in contention, turning aside seven shots in each half. The Corsairs secured the hard-fought victory with 44 seconds left in the second overtime frame, when Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass.) found the cage for the deciding score.
So far this season, Burchill has backstopped UMass Dartmouth to a 4-3 record with double-digit saves in all but one outing. With 13.43 saves per game, she ranks sixth nationally and top in the LEC, and sits 23rd in Division III with her .547 save percentage. In total, she has turned aside 94 shots, leading fellow conference goalkeepers by 12.
UMass Dartmouth takes to the field tonight at 7 p.m. at Salve Regina, and will make the trip to Fitchburg State on Wednesday before returning home for Saturday’s LEC opener against Plymouth State.
