PAWTUCKET, R.I. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women’s lacrosse sophomore Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Julia DiPillo (Medway, Mass.) both garnered Little East Conference weekly honors on Monday, earning Goalkeeper of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Burchill backstopped the Corsairs to two wins to collect her second such honor on the season. In Tuesday’s 13-5 rout of Worcester State, she kept UMass Dartmouth in control with 14 saves for her eighth double-digit save total of the season. Burchill then turned aside seven shots as the Corsairs edged out their first LEC win of the season, and 11-9 decision at Southern Maine. With 149 total saves and 12.42 saves per game, Burchill ranks seventh in all Division III and tops the LEC.
En route to her second career LEC weekly honor, DiPillo managed opponents’ attack in the Corsairs’ two victories, starting with a career-high five caused turnovers against the Lancers on Tuesday. She additionally collected two ground balls and scored a goal in the win. At Southern Maine on Thursday, DiPillo gathered a ground ball and caused a turnover in the close contest.
UMass Dartmouth rose to 7-5 with last week’s pair of wins, and will look to extend its win streak on Tuesday as the Corsairs host LEC foe Western Connecticut at 7 p.m.
