PAWTUCKET, R.I. –University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.) and junior Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) earned Little East Conference (LEC) Offensive Player and Goalie of the Week honors, respectively on Monday after leading the Corsairs to a 2-0 week.
Douty registered a total of 15 points, on 10 goals and five assists, and collected seven draw controls to power the UMass Dartmouth offensive attack this past week. The senior midfielder helped the Corsairs to a dramatic come-from-behind win at Wellesley by scoring a career-high six goals, including the eventual game-winner. Just 48 hours later, she found the nylon on four instances and handed out two helpers in the victory over Salve Regina. Douty also contributed to the defensive third of the field with nine total ground balls and seven caused turnovers. A starter in all three matches, Douty is ranked atop the conference standings in points (20), goals (14), and assists (6). She has recorded at least five points in every game this season, including five points (4-1) in her debut against Mass. Maritime on March 4. Douty also collected 14 ground balls, eight draw controls, and nine caused turnovers.
In between the posts, Burchill anchored UMass Dartmouth to a 2-0 week in non-conference action. The junior from Bridgewater, Mass. posted a total of 31 saves this past week, including a career-high 20 stops in the victory over Salve Regina. Earlier in the week, she made 11 saves in the overtime victory at Wellesley. In four games this past season, Burchill has sported a 4-1 individual record with 44 total saves in 200 minutes, 14 seconds of action. She has reached double digits in saves three times to post a 13.18 goals against average.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 4pm on Thursday, March 22, when the Corsairs host Curry College.
