PROVIDENCE, RI- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team outscored host Rhode Island College in the second half, 9-5, and went on to defeat the Anchorwomen, 18-13, in a Little East Conference match at the Varsity Athletic Complex Tuesday.
The Corsairs broke a 10-10 tie with four consecutive goals in the second half to take the lead for good. Senior midfielder Allison Trearchis (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS) broke the tie, Liz Stapleton scored the next two goals, and junior attacker Gillian Carey (Waltham, MA/Waltham HS/UMass) scored again as UMass Dartmouth took a 14-10 lead with 16:16 remaining.

Carey led UMass Dartmouth with five goals, freshmen Brittney Enos (East Falmouth, MA/East Falmouth HS) and Heather Masse (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) each scored three times, and Stapleton, senior Andrea Russo (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS) and junior Samantha Wonson (Lowell, MA/Lowell HS) each scored twice. Nicky Drolet scored six goals for RIC, and Molly Voyer added three.
"We had good play from out captains, and our goalie (senior Liz Miller, Littleton, MA/Westford Academy/New Hampshire) really played well," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "We played well as a team, we did a good job in transition, and we had a balanced offense. All aspects of our game were where we wanted to be, and we are going to try to build on what we did today. "
UMass Dartmouth out shot RIC, 35-28. Miller made eight saves for the Corsairs, while Kerri Montgomery made 10 for the Anchorwomen.
The Corsairs improved to 3-4 and 1--1 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Anchorwomen fell to 3-7 and 0-3 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Smith Thursday evening.
