MANSFIELD, CT-Host Eastern Connecticut State outscored the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s women’s lacrosse team in the second half, 8-1 and went on to defeat the Corsairs, 14-4, in a Little East Conference match at the ECSU Outdoor Sports Center Friday.
Freshman midfielder Allison O’Rourke (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) led UMass Dartmouth with three goals and one assist, while sophomore midfielder Rachel Carlucci (Franklin, MA/Franklin HS/SCSU) scored the other goal. O’Rourke’s second goal, with 11:43 remaining in the first half, allowed the Corsairs to cut the ECSU lead to 4-3. But the Warriors scored the final two goals of the first half, and pulled away in the second half.
“We had some people missing because of class conflicts, and we only had one sub, and our people played out of their minds,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. “I was very proud of the way our team played. We hung in there and mixed up the lineup, and moved some people around, and we left everything out on the field.”
ECSU out shot UMass Dartmouth, 29-19. Junior goalkeeper Liz Miller (Littleton, MA/Westford Academy/New Hampshire) was credited with five saves for the Corsairs, while Kristina Ibsen made 10 stops for the Pioneers.
UMass Dartmouth fell to 5-9 and 2-3 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while ECSU improved to 7-8 and 5-0 in LEC play with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Western Connecticut State in the final match of the regular season Saturday.
