KEENE, NH-Host Keene State raced to a 12-2 halftime lead and defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team, 18-8, in a Little East Conference match at the Owl Athletic Complex Saturday.
After the Owls took a 2-0 lead, junior midfielder Allison O'Rourke (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) scored to make the score 2-1, but KSC scored eight consecutive goals before senior midfielder Samantha Wonson (Lowell, MA/Lowell HS) ended the run with a goal at 8:24 of the first half.
Sophomore attacker Brittney Enos (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS) and freshman attacker Taylor Corsano (Bourne, MA/Bourne HS) led UMass Dartmouth with two goals each, and O'Rourke had three assists. Caitlyn Corace led KSC with four goals.
"In the second half, we played probably the best half we've played all year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "We played them even in the second half, but we got off to a slow start. We were undermanned today, but we really scrapped in the second half, and I'm proud of our team. Overall, I was pleased, and we're looking forward to the tournament next week."
The Owls outshot the Corsairs, 39-13. Sophomore goalkeeper Angelina Donovan (Medford, MA/Medford HS) made 12 saves for UMD, while Libby Curran and Erin Taylor combined to make seven stops for Keene State.
The Corsairs dropped to 5-10 and 1-5 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while the Owls improved to 11-5 and 5-1 in LEC play with the victory. Both teams will return to action in next week's LEC playoffs.
