Two Corsairs Earn Little East Women's Lacrosse Honors

May 5, 2009

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team have earned Little East Conference honors.

Junior midfielder Kara Basque (Plainville, MA/King Phillip Regional HS/Sacred Heart) has been named second team All-LEC, while freshman midfielder Allison O'Rourke (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) was named LEC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year.

Basque had 16 goals and two assists for 18 points this season, scored two game-winning goals, and also had 27 ground balls. O'Rourke led the Corsairs with 41 goals and 10 assists for 51 points, scored a game-winning goal, and had 31 ground balls.

"Kara's award is well-deserved," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "She is one of the more skilled players in the league. Kara played a number of positions for us, has the ability to score with either hand, passes effectively, and has a unique gamesmanship ability. It's rare that a freshman is the leading scorer on your team, but Allison has a unique ability to be able to find the net. She took draws for us, and is a very fast, tall rangy player. She really improved a lot this season, and we expect great things from her in coming years. Both Kara and Allison are very competitive, and that leads to improvement."

UMass Dartmouth finished the season at 6-11, advancing to the semi-finals of the Little East Conference playoffs.
