NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior goalkeeper Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) Chauvin has been named Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, while junior defender Sam Silvia (Dighton, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) has been named LEC Defensive Player of the Week. It's the third time this season that Chauvin has been honored, while Silvia was honored for the first time.
Silvia helped lead the Corsairs to a pair of shutout victories last week. She was instrumental in UMD's defensive efforts, which have resulted in the Corsairs registering five consecutive shutouts.
Chauvin earned a pair of shutouts last week, bringing her total for the season to eight. She made five saves in the two victories.
"I was pleased to see Krista and Sam honored," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "Krista is very modest and always gives credit to the players in front of her. She deserves a lot more credit than she gives herself. Sam has been the backbone of our defense for the past two years, and has not gotten all of the credit she deserves. She always gives a consistent effort, plays hard, and is having a great season this year."
The Corsairs are 8-1-1 this season and will visit Bridgewater State Tuesday.
