NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior goalkeeper Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS/Stonehill) Chauvin has been named Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, while junior defender Kathleen Landers (Danvers, MA/Danvers HS) has been named LEC Defensive Player of the Week. It's the third time this season that Chauvin has been honored, while Landers was honored for the first time.
Chauvin did not allow a goal in 200 minutes of action this past week, posting to sport a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage. Last Tuesday night, she made a season-high 14 saves in a scoreless tie against Springfield, the fifth-ranked team in New England. Saturday, she blanked Southern Maine as the Corsairs defeated the Huskies, 1-0.
Landers helped lead a defensive effort that blanked both opponents last week. She also scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute in Saturday's 1-0 win against Southern Maine. .
"Krista is definitely deserving of the honor," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "She's been coming up with some huge saves in the last few games, and it's nice to see Krista honored again. It's also exciting to see Kathleen honored this week. She works hard, plays 90 minutes in every game, and doesn't get the credit that she deserves. She came all the way to put in the winning goal against Southern Maine. I'm happy with her performance, not only this week, but for the entire season."
The Corsairs are 10-2-2 this season and will visit Keene State Saturday.
