Three First Half Goals Lift Corsairs Over Huskies

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Women's Soccer team rode three first half goals to victory over Little East opponent Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon.

UMass Dartmouth (7-3-1, 2-1 LEC) did all of their scoring early as senior Kathleen Landers (Danvers, Mass. / Danvers)  netted two first half goals and Tori Pierce (Tiverton, RI / Tiverton) with one.

In the 16th minute, Pierce found the back of the net after she received a long ball from teammate Sam Silvia (Dighton, Mass. / Dighton-Rehoboth).  Landers quickly recorded a mark of her own when she got her head on a bouncing ball in the 19th minute. In the 25th minute Landers took advantage of a Southern Maine (4-7-0, 1-2 LEC) misplay and scored her second goal of the contest to push the lead to 3-0.

The next 65 minutes of play went on without either team scoring a goal. The Corsairs outshot the Huskies 23-8 for the game and had five corners to Southern Maine's two.

UMass Dartmouth goalkeeper Michelle Miller made four saves as she recorded her fourth win of the season, while the Huskies' keeper Katie Cobb logged eight saves.

The Corsairs travel to Nichols College this Tuesday for a 7pm non-conference game.
