Eastern Connecticut Shuts Down the Corsairs

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team surrendered a first half goal and could not overcome the 1-0 deficit to Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon.

UMass Dartmouth drops to 10-6-1 on the season and 3-3 within the Little East Conference. Eastern Connecticut improves to 8-7 and 3-3 in conference play. The Corsairs are now tied with the Warriors for fourth place in the conference. Eastern Connecticut holds the advantage in the tie breaker due to their win on Saturday.

The game deciding goal was scored in the 29th minute of the first half, when Warrior senior Tamar Merheb (Bethel, Conn.) put home her second goal of the season off a volley from classmate Megan Goodwin (Manchester, Conn.).

UMass Dartmouth was held to just one shot on goal, while Eastern Connecticut landed three on target.

Corsair goalkeeper Michelle Miller (Westford, Mass.) recorded two saves while earning her fourth loss of the season. Warrior keeper Chelsea Santos (Windsor Locks, Conn.) recorded one save en route to a clean sheet.

UMass Dartmouth travels to Worcester State on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
