ONEONTA, N.Y. – Junior Taylor Messina scored in the 82nd minute to lift SUNY Oneonta over the University of Massachusetts Dart women's soccer team in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon, 2-1.
UMass Dartmouth slipped to 1-3 on the season, while the Red Dragons tallied their first win of the season and improved to 1-3 overall.
Messina broke the 1-1 deadlock when she received a cross from teammate Sarah Glowa and beat the keeper on the near-side for the game-winner.
In 67th minute, the Corsairs tied the match when senior Maura Gonsalves (Dartmouth, Mass.) stripped a Red Dragon defender of the ball, broke away from the defense and beat the goalkeeper for the second time this year.
Elise Moinzadeh logged her first score of the season and put the first points on the scoreboard in the 5th minute of regulation for the Red Dragons. Teammate Krystal Scott found Moinzadeh in the center box, who beat the Corsair's goalkeeper with a shot to the bottom left of the net.
Freshman goalkeeper Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass.) registered six saves in 90 minutes of action, while junior Rori Stark turned away two attempts in her first win of the year for Oneonta.
UMass Dartmouth is back in action on Saturday at noon when the Corsairs host Springfield College in their home opener.
