BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Talia D'Ambruoso (Warwick, R.I.) registered her first two goals of the season in a 3-1 victory against non-conference opponent Bridgewater State College on Wednesday evening.
Despite wet weather conditions, D'Ambruoso matched her season total from last year with a pair of scores within 12 minutes of one another in the first half. In the 31st minute of play, the Warwick, R.I. native tied the match at one apiece when she elevated her shot over the Bear's goalkeeper from about 25 yards out. D'Ambruoso recorded the game-winning strike when the midfielder buried a shot in the lower right portion of the net upon receiving a pass from freshman Lily Higgins (Hanson, Mass.) at the 43rd minute mark.
Sophomore Lucy Jensen (Boxborough, Mass.) sealed the game for the visiting Corsairs when she beat the keeper from 20 yards out for her second goal of the year. The third and final goal of the contest was registered in the 61st minute of the closing half and senior Shelby Friedland (New Bedford, Mass.) was awarded the assist on the play.
Bridgewater State (3-6) logged its only goal of the game in the 10th minute of regulation when senior Lauren Bandoian connected from 35 yards out off an assist from teammate Carolyn Sessler. The UMass Dartmouth (4-5) defenses limited the Bears to only four shots on goal for the remainder of the contest.
Freshman Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass.) and sophomore Nikki Butts (Milford, Mass.) shared time in the net for UMass Dartmouth. Boucher earned her third win of the year and stopped five shot attempts in 70:53 minutes of action. Butts went untested for the duration of her 19:07 in net. For the Bears, junior Kristin Reardon turned away eight attempts in the effort.
The Corsairs return to league play on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they host Southern Maine at 4 pm on Cressy Field.
