Jensen Nets a Pair to Lead Corsairs, 3-0

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Sophomore forward Lucy Jensen (Boxborough, Mass.) found the back of the net twice for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team in a 3-0 win against non-conference opponent Fitchburg State on Wednesday evening.

Jensen registered her pair of scores within a seven minute span in the opening stanza. In the 38th minute, classmate Talia D'Ambruoso (Warwick, R.I.) set up Jensen for the first goal of the match and her third goal of the season. The Boxborough, Mass. native then managed to beat the Falcon's goalkeeper with seconds remaining in the first half to send UMass Dartmouth (8-7-0) into the intermission with a two score advantage.

Senior Maura Gonsalves (Dartmouth, Mass.) gave the Corsairs a three goal cushion in the 67th minute, when the forward gathered a loose ball in front of the net and tucked a shot inside the far post for her team-leading eighth mark of the season.

In net, freshman Madison Butcher (Southampton, Mass.) registered four saves and captured her fourth win of the season for UMass Dartmouth. Senior Kelsey Ford finished with eight stops in a complete game effort for Fitchburg State (3-12-1). Throughout the match the Corsairs held a 17-12 advantage in shots, while also holding a narrow 5-3 margin in corners.

UMass Dartmouth returns to the conference circuit at 7 pm on Saturday, Oct. 25, when the Corsairs host Eastern Connecticut on Cressy Field.
