NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team dropped a road decision on Thursday evening, falling 1-0 to the Pioneers of Smith College in non-conference action.
Score: UMass Dartmouth 0 | Smith College 1
Records: UMass Dartmouth (1-2, 0-0 LEC) | Smith College (2-1, 0-0 NEWMAC)
How it Happened
With 20 minutes to go in the first half, the Pioneers began to attack the net aggressively, putting five shots on net in the remaining time before intermission, and outshooting the visiting Corsairs 9-4 for the stanza.
Following the half-time break, the hosts continued their aggression with the ball, putting it on net four times in a two-minute span. The ball control on the offensive side of the field finally rewarded the Pioneers when sophomore Krissy Williams (Stockbridge, Mass.) reset the possession before burying her first goal of the year (1-0).
UMass Dartmouth had an opportunity to knot the score with just 13 minutes remaining in the contest, as sophomore Baily Dowling (Lakeville, Mass.) was awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the box, but Smith's Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass.) rose to the occasion, punching away the shot to keep the 1-0 lead intact.
The Pioneers kept the Corsairs at bay for the remaining time to pick up their second win of the season.
