NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Visiting Eastern Connecticut State scored twice in the second half and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team, 3-1, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Saturday.
Meghan Ryczek broke the tie when she fired a shot off the post and past UMass Dartmouth sophomore goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) in the 61st minute. Lauren Greeney scored unassisted in the 78th minute to make it 3-1.
Senior forward Sarah Killingbeck (Norton, MA/Norton HS) staked the Corsairs to a 1-0 lead when she headed home a cross from sophomore forward Cristal Peixoto (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) at the 4:15 mark. Nicole Gaudette tied the score when she scored on a penalty kick at the 19:15 mark after UMass Dartmouth was whistled for a handball in the penalty area.
The Warriors out shot the Corsairs, 14-4. Braga made six saves, while Kim Church made two for Eastern Connecticut.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 4-9-4 and 2-3-2 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while ECSU improved to 10-4-1 and 6-0-1 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit UMass Boston in a first round LEC playoff game Tuesday. The Warriors will host a first round playoff game Tuesday.
