Sept. 4, 2010
BEVERLY, MA-The UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team fell to host Endicott, 2-0, in their 2010 season opener at the Gulls' campus field Saturday afternoon.
The Gulls broke a scoreless tie by scoring twice within three minutes in the second half. Alexandra Sutter banged home the rebound of a shot by Caitlin Peters at 61:55, and Kayla Corbett scored unassisted on a header three minutes later.
"We were shorthanded today, and Endicott is a very good team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "We worked hard, and played well. We started seven freshmen today. I'm not happy with the result, but I'm happy with our effort."
The Gulls outshot the Corsairs, 19-3. Senior goalkeeper Liz Stapleton (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS) made seven saves for UMD.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 0-1 with the defeat, while Endicott improved to 1-0-1 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Salve Regina Tuesday evening.
