DUDLEY, MA- Senior defender Kelsey Boothby (Holbrook, MA/Holbrook HS) and senior midfielder Karla Ellis (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington HS) each scored twice to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team to a 6-3 victory over host Nichols in a non-conference game at the Nichols College Soccer Field Thursday afternoon.
Ellis scored in the 21st and 24th minutes to give UMD a 2-0 lead, each time converting a pass from junior midfielder Allison Carver (Andover, MA/Andover HS). Boothby scored off a free kick in the 28th minute to make it 3-0, assisted on a goal by junior forward Cristal Peixoto (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) that made it 4-1 with 3:59 left in the first half, then scored unassisted at 61:07 to stake the Corsairs to a 5-2 advantage. Freshman forward Jamie Ledin (Bridgewater, MA/West Bridgewater HS) scored 45 seconds later to make it 6-2. Samantha Abro scored twice for the Bison, and Maryanne Lanzoni added a goal.
UMD out shot Nichols, 21-17. Junior goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) made six saves for the Corsairs, while Maureen Lynch made five stops for the Bison.
The Corsairs improved to 2-2 with the victory, while the Bison fell to 1-2 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Smith Saturday. .
