Late Goals Sink Women's Soccer, 3-2

PORTLAND, ME-Heidi DeHaan and Catherine Wise scored goals 1:28 apart late in the second half to five host Southern Maine a 3-2 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team host Southern Maine in a Little East Conference match at Memorial Field Saturday. The match was moved from the USM Soccer Field in Gorham because of poor field conditions.
Freshman midfielder Shannon Rhinehart (Randolph, MA/Randolph HS) had given the Corsairs a 2-1 lead at with an unassisted goal at the 84:04 mark when the Huskies rallied. DeHaan scored unassisted to tie the score just 24 seconds later, and Wise re-directed DeHaan's cross into the net with just 4:04 left in the second half.
Danielle Poulin gave USM a 1-0 lead when she scored an unassisted goal 16 seconds into the match. Freshman midfielder Amy Carchedi (Quincy, MA/North Quincy HS) tied it in the 59th minute, converting a pass from junior forward Cristal Peixoto (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS).
The Corsairs out shot the Huskies, 11-9. Junior goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) and freshman goalkeeper Jen Warren (Somerset, MA/Bishop Feehan) combined to make three saves for UMass Dartmouth, while Alison Bradley made four saves for USM.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 4-6-1 and 1-2-0 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while Southern Maine improved to 2-8-0 and 1-2-0 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Bridgewater State Tuesday evening.
