Late Rally by Women's Soccer Falls Short at Wentworth

BOSTON, MA-A late rally by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team fell short as host Wentworth held on for a 4-3 victory in their non-conference match at Sweeney Field Thursday evening.
Sophomore forward Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, MA/Tri-County HS) scored twice for the Corsairs and assisted on the third goal. Her 11th goal of the season tied the match, 1-1, in the 11th minute. Junior forward Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) assisted on the play.
Olivia Moore broke the first half tie when she scored for the Leopards in the 13th minute. She scored twice more, completing a three-goal hat trick, to give Wentworth a 4-1 advantage with 14:32 remaining.
The Corsairs rallied, with Jonasson scoring her 12th goal of the year at 83:19, and assisting on a goal by Van Ness with 4:23 remaining, But UMass Dartmouth could come no closer.
Danielle Weiler gave the Leopards a 1-0 lead when she opened the scoring with a goal in the third minute.
The Corsairs outshot the Leopards, 24-19. Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Borges (Somerset, MA/Somerset HS) made five saves for UMD, while Jess Gardner and Nicole Leahey combined to stop 10 shots for Wentworth.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 7-5-1 with the defeat, while Wentworth improved to 3-9 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit UMass Boston Saturday.
