BRIDGEWATER, MA-Host Bridgewater State scored three goals in the second half and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team, 4-1, in a non-conference match at Swenson Pitch Thursday afternoon.
Freshman forward Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, MA/Tri-County HS) gave the Corsairs a 1-0 lead when she took a pass from sophomore forward Jillian Van Ness (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) and scored on a breakaway in the 20th minute. Jordan McDermott tied the score for the Bears when she scored on a breakaway with 3:02 left in the first half.
Molly Copeland put BSU on top when she scored in the 61st minute. McDermott scored again in the 72nd minute, and Stephanie Muscato finished the scoring with 7:29 remaining.
"We scored the first goal, and played pretty well in the first half, and we created chances, but we couldn't finish them," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Nicole Hanewich. "They scored with a few minutes left in the first half. Bridgewater is a good team. We never stopped working, and we deserve credit for that."
The Bears outshot the Corsairs, 16-12. Senior goalkeeper Tanya Braga (Hudson, MA/Hudson HS) made five saves for UMD while Kayla Grover made eight for Bridgewater State.
UMass Dartmouth fell to 3-11-0 with the defeat, while BSU improved to 5-6 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Plymouth State Saturday.
