NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team has been picked to finish sixth in the annual Little East Conference pre-season poll.
The Corsairs received 28 points in the poll, placing them a single point behind fifth-place Plymouth State and ahead of seventh-ranked Rhode Island College and eighth-ranked Southern Maine.
Western Connecticut State was picked to finish first with six first-place votes and 61 points, Eastern Connecticut State was picked second with 54 points and one first-place vote, and Keene State was picked third with 52 points and the remaining first-place vote. UMass Boston was predicted to finish fourth with 33 points.'
"I think that after the top three teams, there's a lot of parity among the rest of the teams," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Carla DeSantis. "You could seed just about anybody fourth through eighth. I'm happy that we've shown up as one of the teams chosen to make the post-season. The fact that the rest of the conference considers us as a team that would be in the post-season is a step in the right direction."
The top six teams in the LEC will advance to the post-season tournament.
The Corsairs finished 4-9-4 overall and 2-3-2 in LEC play last year, finishing fifth in the conference. UMass Dartmouth will begin their 2009 schedule at home against Roger Williams next Thursday, September 3rd.
