Women's Soccer Starts LEC Playoffs on the Road

Nov. 2, 2009

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's soccer team will begin their second season when they travel to UMass Boston to begin the Little East Conference playoffs Tuesday afternoon. Game time is 2:00 p.m. for the first round match at the Clark Athletic Center.

The Corsairs compiled a 6-11-1 overall record and a 2-5 LEC mark and tied for fifth place in the conference standings. They were seeded sixth as the result of a tie-breaker. The Beacons are 13-4-1, 5-1-1 in the Little East, and hold the third seed.

"I'm very excited that we have gone to the Little East Tournament two years in a row, it's been a while since we've done that (2003 and 2004 was the last time)," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Carla DeSantis. "We deserve to be in the tournament, we're one of the top six teams in the conference, and we'll show up ready to play."

UMass Dartmouth dropped a 2-1 decision to the Beacons on the road on September 26th, and lost their first round playoff match at UMB last year but DeSantis is confident that her team can turn things around.

"Our game up there was close, and after last year's result in the first round, our returning players are excited to get the opportunity to play them again," said DeSantis. "In order to be successful, we have to finish the opportunities we create when we get them, and defend well as a team. If we do, we could end up on top."

The winner of Tuesday's match will travel to Eastern Connecticut State for the semi-finals Thursday evening.
